what is this

Research meets building

You study how people learn. You have ideas for tools that could make learning better. This event gives you a few hours to actually build one.

The problem

Researchers at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at University of Helsinki generate groundbreaking insights about human growth, development, and learning every day.

But turning those insights into something people can actually use - an app, a tool, a prototype - usually requires a developer, a budget, and months of time.

The solution

With vibe coding, you describe what you want to build in plain language - and AI builds it for you. No programming. No technical background needed.

In a single afternoon, you can go from a research question to a digital solution that you can test, demo, and iterate on.

who it's for

Two paths, one event

Whether you have research to turn into a tool or an EdTech idea to test - this is for you.

RESEARCHERS

Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Helsinki

You study learning. Now build something from your research - in one afternoon.

  • Turn a research finding into an interactive learning tool
  • Prototype an assessment method or learning intervention
  • Test an idea without waiting for a developer
  • Create a demo to show at conferences or in grant applications
  • Build something that may support your research - a questionnaire, analysis tool, or anything you need
EdTech Innovators

Educational technology builders

You have an idea for an educational tool, app, or platform. Build a real version today alongside learning-science researchers.

  • Validate your idea with a real prototype - not a slide deck
  • Get feedback from learning science researchers on the spot
  • Connect with Helsinki Education Hub's incubator program
  • First step toward something bigger - startup, grant, or collaboration
the agenda

One afternoon. Idea to digital solution.

A fast-paced, supported session. Bring your laptop and your research question.

16:30

Doors open

Arrive, settle in, grab a coffee. Meet fellow researchers and EdTech builders.

16:45

Welcome & intro to vibe coding

What is vibe coding? How does it work? Live demo of building an app from scratch in minutes.

17:00

Idea shaping workshop

Define your scope: what's the one thing your tool does? Mentors help you narrow down.

17:15

Build sprint

Hands-on vibe coding. Mentors circulate. Build, test, iterate. No coding required.

18:15

Snacks & networking break

Refuel. Share progress with your neighbours.

18:45

Showcases

Show what you built. 2-minute demos. Feedback from researchers, EdTech experts, and the Helsinki Education Hub (HEH) team.

19:15

Next steps

Info on HEH incubator, EdTech Testbed, and how to keep building. Networking continues.

19:30

Event wraps up

Go home with a digital solution and the start of something real.

common questions

Frequently asked

Do I need any coding experience?
None at all. Vibe coding means you describe what you want in plain language and AI builds it. If you can write an email, you can vibe code.
I'm a researcher, not an entrepreneur. Is this still for me?
Especially for you. This event is designed to help researchers turn insights into tangible prototypes - for grant demos, conference showcases, or just to see if an idea has legs.
What should I bring?
Your laptop and a research question or EdTech idea you'd like to explore. Even a rough idea is fine - we'll help you shape it in the idea workshop.
Can I work in a team?
Yes. You can come solo and pair up on the spot, or bring a teammate. Both work great.
What happens after the event?
Promising prototypes can be connected to Helsinki Education Hub's incubator program and then EdTech Testbed, where you can test your solution in real Helsinki schools. We can also talk about helping you commercialise - and we will announce what's next at the event.
Is this only for University of Helsinki researchers?
The event is primarily for researchers at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, but anyone with an EdTech idea they want to test is welcome to apply.
